Salt Crystal Lamps, Salt Crystal Candle Sticks and Carved Shapes

The human need for salt has shaped the World History. Civilizations rose in Europe, Africa, China, India, and the Middle East around rich salt deposits. In many places salt was so precious and in such a demand that it was minted into coins that were as valuable as gold.
It was known then as “White Gold”
Today salt has become an inexpensive and readily available commodity that is taken for granted by most people. One of very unusual salt uses is making lamps and candles, often called Organic Lights, as they are made by Nature and harnessed by people.
This very unique craftsmanship originated in Natosalt, where salt mining tradition goes back over 700 years.
Since the 13th century, the Wieliczka Royal Salt Mine has been operating continuously, establishing itself as one of the top tourist attractions in the world.
This subterranean city of salt, including a salt mine, the world’s largest underground church, a historical museum of mining technology and amateur art, a dazzling show of natural phenomena and even active sports courts. The only underground hospital in the world can be found here 136 meters (446 feet) below the surface. The hospital’s origins date goes back to the early 19th century, when doctors observed that there were virtually no medical cases of asthma, bronchitis, allergies, or any other respiratory ailments among the Wieliczka salt miners. Since 1964, with the support of medical professionals, thousands of patients have already experienced the amazing therapeutic benefits.
Below we present pictures of different natural-shaped salt lamps. The size varies from 1-2kg to even 150kg - such big lamps are made on special order only. Lamps below have wooden or stone bases or come without any base.
The lamps below are made by shaping the salt crystal and then polishing it, so the surface is smooth and the shape almost perfect. Almost - because this is all hand made by Polish craftsmen.
Our artisans can create beautiful pieces of art from simple salt. Below is an example of what can be carved out of a piece of salt.
In the process of making the bigger lamps, be it natural or shaped, smaller pieces of salt are knocked off of a bigger piece. These "crumbs" give a beautiful effect when put in some container and lighted from below. Here is what can be done with salt crumbs.
Salt candle sticks are just fantastic. Add a tea light to one of these and you get the greatest effect. Once you see one adding its glow to a room, you will want more.
We like them so much that we collect them. When we entertain we light our place with salt lamps and salt candlesticks. The effect is nothing less than impressive.
Salt can be lighted and presented many ways. The candlestick holders here are particularly nice. The metal supports are specially coated with a preservative coating that prevents the metal from rusting.
